| | Contest Eligibility Entry and Submission Guidelines Do No Harm Judging and Prizes Reasons for Disqualification Sponsor's Right to Content and Protection of Minors Liability and Indemnification Privacy Acceptance of Official Rules Contest The "What's Happening" Contest is part of Wing It!, a quarterly student Contest sponsored by the Global Film Initiative and Virgin America. Full Contest details can be read here. Eligibility - You must be a currently enrolled high school or college student between 14–25 years–of–age.
- You must be currently residing within the United States, U.S. territories or Canada (greencard and student–visa holders accepted).
- If you are under 18 years–of–age, you can enter the Contest if you send us the Contest Agreement (see entry form) signed by you AND your parent or legal guardian; or if you have your parent, legal guardian, teacher or instructor apply for you.
- If you are an employee, officer, director, agent and/or representative of the Global Film Initiative and/or Virgin America, and/or their respective parent companies, affiliates and subsidiaries, or an immediate family member of any of the foregoing, you are NOT eligible to enter the Contest.
Entry and submission Guidelines 1. Submission deadline. You may submit your entry to the Global Film Initiative beginning Monday, November 23, 2009. Submissions must be emailed or postmarked/date–stamped by USPS, Canadian mail or courier/shipper service (FedEx or UPS only) no later than Friday, February 26, 2010; submissions emailed or postmarked/date–stamped after this date will not be accepted. 2. Submission materials and requirements. All submissions must include a completed Entry Form and signed Contest Agreement, and a written work per the following specifications: - The written work has been written by the applicant
- English language only
- Handwritten or printed
- Must be at least 350 words in length, but not exceed 500 words
3. Submission Limitations and Restrictions. You agree that you will not submit materials that are: - Copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner to submit the material to this Contest in full compliance with these Official Rules.
- False, inaccurate, misleading, unlawful, obscene, defamatory, libelous, threatening, pornographic, harassing, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise offensive, or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, violate any law, or is otherwise inappropriate, as may be determined by the Global Film Initiative, or contrary to the Global Film Initiative's other stated policies and procedures, where applicable.
4. Multiple submissions. You may enter the Contest with more than one submission, provided that each submission is different and submitted with a different Entry Form, Contest Agreement and essay. Duplicate submissions are not allowed and will be disqualified. 5. Submission method. You may submit your entry via email, USPS, Federal Express or UPS. 6. Submission Address. Submit all Contest forms and materials to: 7. Final submission. Upon submitting your entry to the Global Film Initiative, are submissions are considered final and may not be altered or edited. Do No Harm By entering this Contest, you agree to, confirm and represent to the Global Film Initiative and Virgin America that neither you nor anyone else has engaged or taken part (or induced or encouraged anyone else to do so) in any activity or conduct that (i) may or is likely to harm or create a risk of harm, physical or mental injury, emotional distress, death, disability, disfigurement, or physical or mental illness to any person, other living thing or any property, (ii) may or is likely to create a risk of any other loss or damage to person, living things or property, (iii) is or may constitute a crime, unlawful or non-consensual activities (e.g., conduct that could lead to criminal prosecution), tortuous conduct (e.g., conduct that could lead to civil prosecution) or the violation or infringement of the rights of any other party or (iv) violates any of the terms or conditions of these Official Rules. Judging and Prizes Contest submissions will be judged by the Global Film Initiative and Virgin America staff. Judging will begin Friday, February 26, 2010 and winners will be announced by or before Monday, March 15, 2010. Contest winners will be selected based on the following criteria: - Clarity of message
- Originality
- Adherence to Contest guidelines and requirements (i.e. subject matter, length)
- Style/Voice
First Place Contest winner will receive two (2) roundtrip airline tickets to anywhere Virgin America airlines flies, and will also be featured on the Global Film Initiative's main website and its education website, Bluescreen. Virgin America ticket Official Rules: All travel must be completed prior to date specified on ticket voucher. Please note that seats are subject to availability, and seats will not be available during certain holiday periods. Schedules and markets are subject to change without notice. Bookings are not eligible for upgrades or premium seats. This offer is not redeemable for cash. Reservations must be booked no later than twenty-one (21) days prior to travel. Block out date restrictions may apply. Runners-up will also be featured on the Global Film Initiative's education website, Bluescreen. Reasons for Disqualification Submissions that do not comply with all of these rules will be disqualified per the Global Film Initiative's sole and final discretion and without notice. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. Sponsor's Right to Content and Protection of Minors The Global Film Initiative and Virgin America are not obligated to review, consider, use, publish, display or broadcast any Contest submission. The Global Film Initiative shall have the right to use any materials submitted for the sole purpose of the Contest described herein, and for promotional and educational purposes in all forms of media whether now known or hereafter developed, at any time in the future, without notice and without compensation, royalty, accounting, liability or obligation to any Contest Entrant. Such uses are entirely within the Global Film Initiative's discretion and are not guaranteed, even for winning Contest submissions. The Global Film Initiative will not accept or display Contest submissions from minors or identify underage Contest Entrants and/or winners without express written permission from minors' respective parent or legal guardian. In the event that the Global Film Initiative does display video submissions, the organization guarantees not to show any content containing minors that is pornographic, obscene or depicts harm being done against minors in any way. In the case that such content is found, the Global Film Initiative will report violations to the appropriate authorities. Further to the preceding, if the Global Film Initiative displays Contest submissions in any form of media, it guarantees they will not be misrepresented or modified in such a manner to be construed as harmful to minors. All entries become the property of the Global Film Initiative and will not be acknowledged or returned. Liability and Indemnification By entering this Contest, the Entrant and parent/legal guardian/teacher/instructor (where appropriate) do hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless the Global Film Initiative and Virgin America and their successors and assign from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from entering the Contest.
The Global Film Initiative and Virgin America assume no liability for any harmful actions undertaken by Entrants for the purposes of entering this Contest and further to this cannot be held liable by any third parties for such actions.
Privacy All personally identifiable information (email address, mailing address, phone number, etc.) provided in connection with the Contest will not be made public by the Global Film Initiative unless permission is granted by the Entrant and appropriate consent is given where applicable. Acceptance of Official Rules In addition to all of the foregoing, by entering this Contest, you are agreeing to the Official Rules set forth by the Global Film Initiative and you acknowledge that the Global Film Initiative and/or Virgin America will rely on your agreement and compliance with these Official Rules when you submit or attempt to submit a Contest entry.
