FILM INFORMATION

Dir. Orhan Eskiköy and Zeynel Do?an, Turkey, GFI grant 2011.
As Neyzel, an expectant father, prepares for the birth of his child, he gradually begins to excavate memories of his childhood through audio-taped “letters” that his father sent home while working overseas—but that his mother insists do not exist.

Base Dogan, Gulizar Dogan, Zeynel Dogan
"A haunting sociopolitical drama blends fiction and documentary to elucidate the turbulent history of a Kurdish family. Mehmet (co-director Zeynel Dogan) lives with his pregnant wife in Diyarbakir, eastern Turkey. His father was fatally injured while working in Saudi Arabia and all he has left is an audio tape letter. Now that he is to become a father himself, he visits his mother to ask about more of these cassettes but she is evasive, reluctant to upset Mehmet’s view of his father with the whole dark story.

Voice Of My Father was the recipient of the “Special Jury Award for Best Actor” at the 2013 Ankara International Film Festival and the “Golden Tulip Award for Best Screenplay at the 2012 Istanbul International Film Festival."
